What Is a Garage Door Keypad?

A garage door keypad is a wireless, wall-mounted device installed on the outside of your garage, typically next to the garage door frame. It allows you to open and close your garage door by entering a personal identification number (PIN) instead of using a remote control, wall button, or smartphone app. It is one of the simplest and most practical upgrades you can add to your garage door system.

• Genie: The Genie GK-R Intellicode2 keypad works with all Genie openers manufactured since 1997. Features include a flip-up cover to protect the buttons and backlit keys.
• Universal keypads: For older openers or less common brands, we install universal keypads that are compatible with virtually any garage door opener. These learn the opener's frequency during programming.

Our Installation Process

1. Assess your opener: We identify your opener brand, model, and frequency type to select the right keypad.
2. Choose mounting location: We mount the keypad at a comfortable height (typically 5 feet) on the exterior wall or door frame, positioned for easy access but not too visible from the street.
3. Install and wire: Wireless keypads require no wiring. We mount the unit with screws, insert the battery, and weatherproof the installation.
4. Program the keypad: We sync the keypad to your opener and set your initial PIN code. We walk you through how to change the code yourself in the future.
5. Test thoroughly: We test the keypad from various distances and angles, verify the door opens and closes reliably, and confirm the safety sensors are functioning.
